Ontario Publishes Producer Responsibility for Batteries Regulation

Ontario Regulation 30/20 made under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act 2016 requires producers to establish a collection and management system for waste batteries from 1 July 2020.

There are exemptions for small producers. Those obligated have the following obligations:

  • Registration and annual reporting
  • Implementing an education and promotion campaign
  • Meeting targets for responsible management

SCIP database received 5 million notifications for harmful chemicals in products

Since 5 January, companies have had to submit data to ECHA on chemicals of concern in their products. Over five million notifications have already been received in the SCIP database, and the data will be published in the coming months.
