The EU-wide enforcement project on REACH authorisation has published its findings. Enforcement authorities carried out 690 inspections and carried out 254 enforcement measures as a result.

Key findings include:

  • 26% of downstream users were not using the substance in compliance with authorisation requirements
  • For 20% of substances, downstream users did not notify ECHA of their use
  • For 35% of substances, suppliers did not communicate adequate information to downstream users
  • 3% of inspections found use of substances without required authorisation

To avoid fines and other enforcement actions, companies should review their use of substances listed in Annex XIV of the REACH regulation and verify that uses are in accordance with authorisation requirements.
