EPA announces further action on PBT substances

The US Environmental Protection Agency has announced that it will issue new rules on the five Persistent Bio-accumulative and Toxic which are currently subject to risk management rules in 2023.

This announcement follows consultation on the rules earlier this year and the no action assurance on Phenol, isopropylated phosphate (3:1) (PIP (3:1)).

The compliance date for PIP (3:1) has now been extended to March 8 2022 with a further consultation on a proposed rule expected before this date.

The provisions of the 2021 rules on Decabromodiphenyl ether (DecaBDE), 2,4,6-Tris(tert-butyl)phenol (2,4,6-TTBP), Hexachlorobutadiene (HCBD) and Pentachlorothiophenol (PCTP) remain in effect until further notice.
