The report shows that the Agency assessed 6,829 registered producers, assessed all 21 compliance schemes and audited 9 compliance schemes. All compliance schemes met their obligations and only 7 UK direct registrants failed to do so.
28 enforcement undertakings (EUs) were accepted from packaging producers in 2021 who failed to register and report. Enforcement undertakings may be offered by producers to address non-compliance and its root cause. Typically these include a donation to an environmental charity.
Between 1 January and 31 May this year, the Environment Agency accepted enforcement undertakings from three companies who failed to register as a producer and recover and recycle packaging waste. These companies contributed a combined total of circa £58k to environmental charities. Enforcement undertakings accepted by the Environment Agency: 1 January 2022 to 31 May 2022 – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
