France reduces private copy fees for reconditioned phones and tablets

The French Ministry of Culture has issued Decision 22 following unanimous agreement by the Private Copying Remuneration to reduce fees for reconditioned smartphones and tablets.

The new fees represent on average 2% of the selling price of a reconditioned smartphone. The reduction aims to achieve a balance between developing the refurbishment sector and supporting cultural activities financed by the private copy levy.

Copie France will apply the new rates from 1 July 2021.
