Consultation opens on new RoHS exemptions

The Oeko-Institut and Fraunhofer IZM have launched a stakeholder consultation on behalf of the European Commission on three RoHS exemptions requests.

The exemptions requested are :

·         Lead in solder used to make electrical connections to vacuum boards used in Mass Spectrometers. Boards designed to be used periodically under low pressure.

·         Use of lead in welds for soldering of certain printed circuit board assemblies in gas detectors.

·         Mercury in single – capped (compact) fluorescent lamps for general lighting purposes < 30 W with a lifetime equal or above 20 000 h: 3,5 mg.

Interested parties are invited to send their comments by e-mail, at the latest on 7 November 2017, to rohs.exemptions@oeko.de.

ECHA advises businesses on impact of Brexit on REACH obligations

ECHA has launched a new section on its website dedicated to providing information on the impact of Brexit. From 30 March 2019 onwards, when the UK formally withdraws from the EU, UK based businesses will no longer be subject to REACH legislation and will instead be subject to UK legislation and EU businesses will be subject to UK rules on the import and use of substances.
